The method involves injecting liquid and gaseous fuel in a selected operating area of an internal combustion engine (1) with high rotational speed and high load of the combustion engine. An operation of the combustion engine is implemented with the liquid or gaseous fuel. A stoichiometric fuel-air mixture is settled and an ignition point is adjusted in a direction. An oxygen deficiency or excess oxygen is determined by a lambda sensor in an exhaust system of the engine. The injected fuel and supplied gaseous amount of fuel are determined by an engine control device (8).
