The device has a rotary gyroscope (100), where a torque is caused on the gyroscope due to rotation of earth. The torque is utilized for performing mechanical work or for electric power production. The rotary gyroscope is fastened to a rotatable baseplate (102), where the torque is transferred to the rotatable base plate. The torque is transferred from the base plate to a generator (107), and a transmission (106) is switched in between. The rotary gyroscope and the base plate are arranged on an air cushion (103). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for utilizing power of earth's rotation (2) a gear wheel with teeth consisting of rotatable balls or rollers.
