The method involves using an exothermy of a hydrogenation reaction of a metallic component (14) with hydrogen for heating the fuel cell (10) under formation of a metallic hydride (14') and an endothermy of a dehydrogenation reaction of the metallic hydride for cooling the fuel cell under formation of a metallic component and hydrogen. The exothermic and endothermic reaction enthalpy is conveyed by a cooling agent. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell arrangement comprising a tempering equipment for keeping the fuel cell at a moderate temperature.
