The procedure for processing of sliding surface (1) of gray iron workpiece to hone cylinder barrels of internal combustion engine by a short pulse-laser irradiation for plasma formation, comprises irradiating the sliding surface with the radiation of solid body laser with a pulse duration (tau ) of 50-150 ns, energy density of 20-100 mJ/mm 2 and pulse frequency (f p) of 4-15 kHz. The energy density lies in a pulse duration of 50 ns between 30-33 mJ/mm 2 and 100 ns between 40-70 mJ/mm 2. The procedure for processing of sliding surface (1) of gray iron workpiece to hone cylinder barrels of internal combustion engine by a short pulse-laser irradiation for plasma formation, comprises irradiating the sliding surface with the radiation of solid body laser with a pulse duration (tau ) of 50-150 ns, energy density of 20-100 mJ/mm 2 and pulse frequency (f p) of 4-15 kHz. The energy density lies in a pulse duration of 50 ns between 30-33 mJ/mm 2 and 100 ns between 40-70 mJ/mm 2. The laser irradiation is carried out with a neodymium yttrium aluminum garnet laser with a wave length of 1064 nm. The sliding surface is melted in the laser irradiation up to a deep melting in a dimension of 3 mu m and is irradiated in a multiple irradiation by partially overlapping the emerging irradiation spots (3, 4). The offset (a) lies between 3/8 to 5/8 of the irradiation spot radius (d/2) in the solid body laser emerging circular round irradiation spots. The irradiation spot yielding itself in the laser irradiation has a diameter of 1-2 mm. An independent claim is included for a laser irradiating device for processing of sliding surface of gray iron workpiece to hone cylinder barrels of internal combustion engine.
