The system has a model simulation of exhaust gas system components of the exhaust gas system. The model has inlets (8,9,10,11) and an outlet (12) and is formed in transposable manner, such that if a value lies in the inlet, which corresponds to an operating parameter of the exhaust gas system components, the operational value is available for regulation at the outlet, which corresponds to another operating parameter of the exhaust gas system components. The exhaust gas system components has an oxidation catalyst, a nitrogen oxide storage catalyst or a selective catalytic reduction catalyst. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining an operational value in an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle.
