The internal combustion engine system (1) has an internal combustion engine (2) and a fresh gas plant (3) for supplying fresh gas to the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine system has an exhaust gas plant (4) for discharging an exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine. An exhaust gas recirculation plant (5) is provided for removing exhaust gas from the exhaust gas plant and introducing the removed exhaust gas into the fresh gas plant.
