The method involves transmitting a reply message to a mobile network, particularly a mobile phone network in accordance with a Universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) mobile network standard. The reply message transmitted to the mobile network is generated with parameters alternatively maintained at the mobile terminal or at the universal subscriber identity module (USIM) of the mobile terminal from a mobile terminal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a mobile device for operating in a mobile network (2) an universal subscriber identity module to enable authentication for access to mobile device in a mobile network (3) a mobile network, particularly a mobile phone network in accordance with an universal mobile telecommunication system mobile network standard.
