The plug (2) has a radio frequency identification (RFID)-chip (16') fixed to a housing (6), where machine readable information is stored in the RFID-chip in form of bar codes. The machine readable information is provided in which a plug specific parameter is coded, where the parameter is a resistance of a rod-shaped heating element (5) during desired glow temperature of the heating element and linear expansion coefficient of the heating element. The machine readable information is stored in a memory area (16) on an upper surface of the housing. An independent claim is also included for a control device for controlling a pencil-type glow plug.
