Refractory material comprises zirconium dioxide (85-98 wt.%) stabilized with yttrium oxide (2-15 wt.%) and comprises a cubic mixed oxide phase. An independent claim is also included for producing a material as above by heating a material comprising zirconium dioxide (85-98 wt.%) and yttrium oxide (2-15 wt.%) at 1200[deg] C or more.
