The filter element (18) has an intake area, discharge area, a group of channels and another group of channels. The former group of channels and latter group of channels are separated by filter walls from an open-porous material. The group of channel is filled with fibers. The fibers are made of aluminum oxide, aluminum silicate, silicon oxide, zirconium oxide, titanium oxide, lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide or mixtures from this. An independent claim is also included for a method for filling a group of channels of a filter elements for an exhaust.
