A child safety seat system for a vehicle has sensors to detect the fitting of the child seat, e.g. onto a rear seat, and sensors to monitor the occupancy of the child seat, e.g. fitting of the seat belt. The sensors are linked to a vehicle control system which changes selected parameters around the child seat, including; deactivation of airbag, locking nearest door and blocking inside door controls, deactivating nearest window controls etc. The sensors can be integrated into the securing catch for fitting the child seat and/or into the seat belt clasp. The security system can be extended to other passenger seats including front passenger seat.
