The method involves arranging a punching machine tool in a detection area of an optical-electronic receiver unit. Spacer-actual values of the tool are determined in an evaluation unit from data of an illumination unit i.e. laser-line projector, the receiver unit and stored position data based on a working surface. The punching machine tool is assembled during exceeding of difference limit values for the punching machine tool by changing components. The punching machine tool is arranged during exceeding of the difference limit values for a spatial arrangement by using difference data. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for optical pre-tooling of a punching machine tool.
