A reach truck has an electronic control apparatus (15) designed to drive an actuating element so that a lifting mast (4) moves automatically in the direction of side facing away from a load (8) while the load is picked up using a raised load pickup unit (5) if lifting mast is deformed owing to the weight of load. Actuating element moves the lifting mast in relation to a vehicle frame (1) in the horizontal, longitudinal direction of reach truck.
