The method involves retrieving an opening condition of a fuel filler flap (2). A signal (4) resulting from an opened position of the filler flap is provided to a control unit (6) for interlocking and locking a sliding door (1) or to a central control unit (8) of a motor vehicle during obtaining of the opened position. The control unit (6) is attached to a locking device (5) of the sliding door, and the locking device is activated directly or indirectly by the control unit (6), and the sliding door is locked. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for locking a sliding door of a motor vehicle.
