The method involves attaining a release position by door latches (12, 22, 32, 42) when inner actuation units (16, 26, 36, 46) are in an end position, where vehicle doors (10, 20, 30, 40) are released for opening in the release position. An electronic control signal is activated during movement of the inner actuation units from an initial position to the end position when the inner actuation units attain a preset activation position, which is obtained before an actuation position. The locked door latches are automatically released by the electrical control signal. An independent claim is also included for a locking device for a vehicle door.
