The device has a low-pressure bell jar (32) formed for receiving an ink cartridge to be refilled, where low pressure is produced within the ink cartridge. The low-pressure bell jar exhibits a refilling passage (34a, b, c) that is aligned to an assigned refilling drilling of the cartridge. An injection device injects the ink from the surrounding of the low-pressure bell jar, which stays under atmospheric pressure, into a respective refilling drilling of the cartridge via the refilling passage. An independent claim is also included for a method for refilling of an ink cartridge for an ink jet printer.
