The device i.e. cone-type wire-drawing machine (10), has two drawing shafts having two drawing disks with different diameters. A wire (20) is guided in a predetermined order over the disks in an enlacement during a drawing process. The wire is pulled for reduction of cross section by drawing dies (14) arranged between pulling shafts. Drives (28) are drivingly connected with the shafts, where rotation speed control of the drives takes place based on a process parameter detected during the drawing process. The shafts are arranged in a row, over which the wire is successively guided. An independent claim is also included for a method for drawing wire.
