The ball joint has a slotted bore (12) passing through the wheel carrier (10) with clamping jaws (14a, 14b) formed on it for accepting the ball joint that has a peripheral hemispherical groove on the outer surface of a housing and a clamping bolt (19) associated with the clamping jaws extending perpendicularly to the joint axis. An independent claim is also included for the use of a clamping ratchet as a releasable bearing for a ball joint in an aluminum vehicle wheel carrier.
