A drying method for a laundry machine, having a computer for storing machine operations and a supply of hot air to dry washing for a time adjusted to a selected drying sequence after receiving information from the computer, involves (a) establishing the condition of the washing by measuring the moisture content and (b) increasing or reducing the hot air supply time according to the determined condition of the washing. An independent claim is included for a dryer for a commercial laundry, having an interface for communicating stored information with a computer corresponding to the particular dryer; a sensor for determining the moisture content of the washing in the dryer; and a unit for controlling the operation of the dryer according to information communicated from the interface and reducing the hot air supply time to the dryer in response to information from the moisture sensor.
