The paving system for the entrance step (10) comprises base plates (11) and step segments (12,13) whose cross-sectional shape has a circular section to match the rounded corner areas of the corner step provided at the rounded corners of the overall entrance step. A curved side of the segment serving as the visible side has a radius matching that of the rounded corner area whilst a rear side of the segment remote from the curved side is designed flat. When laid the tread step overhangs the step cladding and the radius of the curved side of the segment is smaller by the size of the overhang than the radius of the rounded corner area of the step face.
