The drive system has a hydrostatic piston engine (2,2') on which control unit (6,6'), controlling the hydrostatic piston engine, is arranged. The central controller (13) is connected with the control unit by an interface (26). A disabling signal is transferable from the control unit to the central controller and from the central controller to the control unit, by the interface. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for monitoring a drive system having a central controller and a control unit (2) a drive system having two hydrostatic piston engines (3) a method for monitoring a drive system having a hydrostatic piston engine.
