The method involves building a functional reference model. A behavior of a system is described with the functional reference model in a preset state of wear under changing conditions on the basis of a number of output variables, which depends on a number of input variables. A momentary behavior of the system is compared with the reference model, in which actual values of the output variables and the input variables are determined. The actual value of the output variables is compared with reference values of the output variables.
