The method involves detecting blinks of a driver from a temporal eye opening degree signal by an adaptive spatial threshold and marking the detected blinks as suspected blinks. A predetermined blink parameter is determined from the suspected blinks, and corresponding suspected blinks from the left and right eyes are fused to a final blink. The static characteristic values are calculated from parameters of the final blink, where the adaptive spatial threshold is calculated by a circular buffer with a predetermined length.
