The method involves determining current position parameters of a driver by using an interior sensor system (4), where a rear view mirror (1,2,3) is automatically adjusted in response to the head and eye position of the driver detected by the interior sensor system in an ideal position. The head and eye position of the driver in the ideal position is arbitrarily overridden by the driver, where the orientation of the rear-view mirror is changed individually by a deliberate movement of the driver head relative to the ideal position.
