A door module (1) has an area that forms a geometrical match with an outer contour (2') of a bodywork section (2) of a rail vehicle. A further area of the door module is set back from this outer contour towards the inside of the bodywork section of the rail vehicle. This further area lies outside a door portal's opening provided for the fitting of the door module in the bodywork section of the rail vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for fitting a door module for bodywork sections of spacious vehicles for carrying passengers like rail vehicles.
