A method for further sound proofing of double skin construction walls and floors has one of the layers (102) cut with a pattern of slits to prevent resonant vibration of the layer. The slits (124, 126, 128, 130) are best cut on the side facing the cavity (118) and can be up to 50 percent of the total thickness. The slits can be filled with an elastic damping material. Slits applied to the outside wall surface are covered by a cladding layer, or rendering. The slits can be cut before final hardening of the layer.
