The coupler has a retaining unit (5) with a retaining unit body (77) with tab parts (75) on opposite ends of the body. A tube is inserted into a retaining unit mounting part (25) when the unit (5) is positioned in an insertion position. The tube has an annular engagement projection (83) progressing into a tubular coupler case by spacing the tab parts of the unit toward the exterior. The unit is displaced automatically by a displacement mechanism toward an engagement position to engage with the projection and is engaged with the projection, when the projection reaches a connection position.
