A fluid cosmetic composition comprises organic volatile solvents and color-effect particles contained in a medium. The medium enables the color effect to develop progressively after the composition is being deposited on keratinous materials. The progressive development of the color effect is result of the particles rising to the surface of the deposit during evaporation of the volatile solvents. An independent claim is included for a method of applying makeup to keratinous materials.
