The device has a cover (28) connected to a case (20) by a connecting rod (50), and displacing between storage and deployed positions. The case is closed when the cover is in the storage position, and an opening in the case is formed when the cover is in the deployed position for allowing passage of an air bag (40) during deployment of the air bag. The air bag is fixed on the cover, and is connected to an air bag inflation system (60).
