Sulfur removal determination method for nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converter in exhaust gas aftertreatment system of e.g. diesel engine, involves determining reducing agent flow from engine operating state and torque
The method involves adjusting the conditions in which a surplus of reducing agent is generated in the internal combustion engine (1). The sulfur oxide removal amount is determined in sulfur oxide removal calculation which is implemented as a software in an engine control unit (110), using a model from a reducing agent flow and from additional operational parameters of the engine. The reducing agent flow in exhaust gas is determined during the sulfur removal from a reducing agent characteristic diagram constructed from an operating state, a rotational speed, and a torque of the engine.
