The system has a control button (2) that is activated for making the system to pass from one state in which speed regulation is inactive, to another state in which speed regulation is active. The button has a luminous device (20) e.g. LED, whose visual state represents the state of the system. The system is deactivated, when the button is in a released position. The button is passed to a reinforced position, when a vehicle driver presses the button, so that the device is lit, and the system maintains vehicle speed close to a threshold speed.
