The dishwasher (1) has a washing station (2), rinsing station (3) and a drying station (4) defining a tunnel (5), and a conveyor (6) being provided in the tunnel (5) and being capable of transferring items e.g. dishes, from the rinsing station to the drying station. The drying station (4) includes a fan for circulating air towards a drying area (10) for the items to be dried and a heating element for heating the circulating air. A detector (15) detects the presence of items to be dried and modifies the temperature set-point of the drying air. An independent claim is also included for a method for washing a dish in a tunnel type dishwasher.
