The method involves searching an index corresponding to a value e.g. protocol code value, of a field in an index table memorizing a set of indexes associated to values of the field by a searching unit. A rule corresponding to the index, found in a rule table memorizing a set of rules associated to the index, is searched using another searching unit. The rule found for all the fields is intersected to obtain a rule satisfied by the data by a calculation unit. An independent claim is also included for a computer program product comprising instructions for performing a data classification method.
