The present invention relates to a method for authenticating a product from an analysis of the clarity of translucent blocks present in a two-dimensional code (1), a method for authenticating a two-dimensional code (1) and the devices allowing the implementation of these methods. The two-dimensional code (1), affixed to a product, is authenticated by analyzing the level of clarity of translucent areas (11, 12, 14) included in the two-dimensional code (1), and comparing the result of this analysis with a reference in a pre-established database. The authentication of the two-dimensional code (1) is ensured by selectively marking certain dark areas of the two-dimensional code (1), according to the string of characters that is encoded, during an encoding step, and by comparing the position of the marked dark areas and the position defined by the character string during a decoding step. The present invention also relates to a new application of two-dimensional codes (1).
