The applicator has an applicator head (20) i.e. mascara brush, with a core, a handle with a rod (16), and a structure for fixing the head on the handle. The structure has an elongated internal central part (40) and an external sheath (34) that coaxially surrounds the part such that the central part and external sheath turn freely with respect to each other around a common axis, and are positively limited against longitudinal movement with respect to each other. The external sheath is received inside a longitudinal bore (32) of the rod, and the central part is hooked to the core.
