The method involves controlling speed of an aircraft (2) on the speed required for following a schedule by adjusting a rolling angle, when the aircraft is not below the altitude provided on a trajectory (1) and beyond an altitude threshold (S1). Engine thrust is adjusted, when the aircraft is below the altitude provided on the trajectory and above the threshold to control the speed of the aircraft. An independent claim is also included for a system for monitoring descent trajectory by an aircraft.
