Preparation of acrylic acid (I) from aqueous glycerol solution, by (i) dehydration of glycerol to give acrolein and (ii) oxidation of acrolein to (I), includes the intermediate stage of condensing at least part of the water and heavy by-products in the dehydration reaction mixture stream from step (i).
