The engine has a cylinder head (2) closing a cylinder (1), and a piston (3) slidably mounted in the cylinder. A combustion chamber is defined in the cylinder between an upper surface (30) of the piston and a lower surface of the head. An injecting unit (5) e.g. nozzle, injects fuel jets into the chamber. A heating unit (6) e.g. spark plug, is placed in the chamber. An intake valve (7) and an exhaust valve (8) selectively close the chamber. A rotating unit (51) modifies the position of the jets with respect to the heating unit.
