The system (1) has radio communication units (6) to transmit a message containing an identification code of a vehicle (2) and information data. Optical identification units have a transmitter (3) with a light source transmitting a preset transmission frame containing the code. A receiver (4) of the identification units has a video camera i.e. charged coupled device camera, to detect a light source i.e. spotlight constituted of infrared diodes, similar to the source of the transmitter. The camera has an image acquisition frequency higher than a transmission frequency of the frame. An independent claim is also included for a method for inter-vehicular communication and identification for a vehicle.
