The system has an electronic control unit (3) controlling displacement of adjustable blades of a variable geometry type turbocharger (2) of an internal combustion engine i.e. oil engine, of a motor vehicle for modifying power released from exhaust gas. The control unit has control loops (24, 25) that control displacement and an angular position of the blades based on an operation point of the engine, respectively, where the loops are arranged in a cascade manner. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a variable geometry type turbocharger of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
