The LED has a stack of layers which are sandwiched between two electrodes serving as an anode (1) and a cathode (8), respectively and which have organic light-emitting layers (3-6). The organic layers (3, 6) whose transition energy of light emission is greater than that of the assembly of other organic layers (4, 5), where the layers are made of organic material or non-metallic inorganic material. An electron blocking layer (2) is sandwiched between the anode and organic layer (3). A hole blocking layer (7) is sandwiched between the cathode and another organic light emitting layer.
