Road bend detecting method for e.g. car, involves comparing speed vectors corresponding to displacement of points to get comparison results, and deducing existence of bend and direction of bend based on comparison results

The method involves capturing an image (I1) from a scene of road situated in front of a vehicle, and capturing another image (I2) from a scene of road. A speed vector (V1) corresponding to the displacement of characteristic point (P1) from the former image to the latter image is determined, and a speed vector (V2) corresponding to the displacement of a characteristic point (P2) from the former image to the latter image is determined. The vectors are compared to get comparison results, and existence of bend and a direction of the bend are deduced based on the results. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling intensity of lighting from a group of headlight of vehicle (2) a system for detecting bending for a motor vehicle, comprising an infrared source.
