Porous solid material for use in seawater comprises a seawater-resistant mineral binder, carbonate, a seawater-insoluble alkaline mineral material giving a pH of 8.1-8.3 in seawater, a seawater-insoluble porogenic mineral material with a BET surface area of at least 10 m2/g, and optionally a sparingly soluble mineral fertilizer for marine vegetation. An independent claim is also included for producing a material as above by mixing the ingredients and adding water in an amount of less than 40% by weight of dry solids.
