Method for retrieving a route and displaying payment facilities for a congestion charging area

A route retrieval apparatus comprises a means for entering a destination, a map storing means, a route retrieval means, a route determination means and a notification means. The map storing means includes road data, information relating to a congestion charging area and positions of payment facilities for paying the congestion charge. In use the user enters a destination S10 and routes are retrieved from the map data by the route retrieval means S11. A route determination means S14 then determines if a selected route S13 goes through a congestion charging area and if so configures the notification means to display the position of a payment facility S15. The notification means may only display payment facilities within a predetermined distance of the route (Fig 3). In one embodiment the route may be altered to incorporate a payment facility location.
