PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance that has excellent characteristics and is expected to be used in a variety of applications.;SOLUTION: It has been discovered that a family of aromatic azo compounds (azoarene derivatives) exhibit a high fluorescence quantum yield. In particular, [2-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenyl]bis(pentafluorophenyl)borane which is an azobenzene derivative, exhibits the historically highest fluorescence quantum yield of 0.99 in a room-temperature solution. A variety of research works have been carried out to date on azobenzene derivatives, and a number of synthetic methods therefor have been established. A useful fluorescent material can be provided thanks to it that versatility and simplicity of synthesis methods of the azobenzene derivatives can be succeeded and the fluorescence wavelength is easily controlled.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
