PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic magnetometer capable of detecting a magnetic field with high sensitivity. PSOLUTION: This atomic magnetometer has a cell 101 involving an atomic group, a light source 102 for pumping light, a light source 103 for probe light, a mirror 104, and a detector 105. The cell 101 is arranged between the light source 102 for pumping light and the mirror 104, and between the light source 103 for probe light and the detector 105. Pumping light 106 emitted from the light source 102 for pumping light is circularly polarized light. The pumping light 106 passes the inside of the cell 101, and is reflected by the mirror 104, and then passes the inside of the cell 101 again. Probe light 107 emitted from the light source 103 for probe light is linearly polarized light. An optical path for the probe light 107 has a direction in parallel with an incident surface of the pumping light 106 and in parallel with a mirror surface of the mirror 104. The optical path for the probe light 107 crosses an optical path for the pumping light 106 in the cell 101. The probe light 107 passing the cell 101 enters the detector 105.
