PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft misalignment amount detection method in a drive power transmission mechanism using a self aligning engagement clutch, capable of precisely performing the detection of the shaft misalignment amount in the self aligning engagement clutch during operation with a simple structure. PSOLUTION: In the drive power transmission mechanism transmitting the drive power to a driven body by coupling a rotary shaft of a first power source and a rotary shaft of a second power source via the self aligning engagement clutch, the shaft positional variation amount in each of the rotary shafts of the first and second drive sources is measured by a noncontact sensor, and the relative shaft misalignment amount of the rotary shaft of the second drive source relative to the rotary shaft of the first drive source is detected by the axial position variation amount measurement result of each rotary shaft upon the coupling of the rotary shafts of the first and second drive sources by the self aligning engagement clutch.
