PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous caster which can improve center segregation to be uniform in the width direction of the cast slab with light pressure, even when a large difference is generated in a solidification completion position in the width direction of the cast slab.;SOLUTION: A reduction of the slab is started at a light reduction zone 4 in a region where the solid phase rate in the central part of the slab 9 is in less or equal 0.4 using a continuous caster 1 with a light rolling reduction zone 4 consisting of a plurality of pairs of rolling rolls, and the solidification of the cast slab is completed within the light reduction zone to produce the continuously cast slab while imparting rolling-reduction force to the slab. The solidification completion position 12 in the width direction of the cast slab is detected, and the solidification of the cast slab is completed to the center of the cast slab at any of the parts in the width direction of the cast slab, except of short sides of the cast slab, based on the detected solidification completion position.
