PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sericin having antioxidant ability and tyrosinase-inhibiting ability increased by the increase of a molecular weight by deforming the molecular structure by radiation exposure, and to provide a method for using sericin subjected to the radiation exposure to heighten the antioxidant ability and the tyrosinase-inhibiting ability by the radiation exposure as a material for a healthy food, a skin-lightning cosmetic or a medicine. PSOLUTION: The method for producing sericin having the physiological activity increased by the radiation exposure to change the molecular structure is provided. The high-molecular weight sericin having the deformed molecular structure is obtained by utilizing the method. The high-molecular weight sericin obtained by the invention has excellent antioxidant activity and skin-lightening effects, and can effectively be used as the material for the functional food, the cosmetic, a fodder, the medicine or the like.
