ATOMIC MAGNETIC SENSOR AND MAGNETIC SENSING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic magnetic sensor which allows the measurement of magnetic field gradient with high sensitivity.;SOLUTION: The atomic magnetic sensor is provided with a light source for probe light and a medium through which probe light propagates. The medium has a first measuring position 11 and a second measuring position 12, which is different from the first position and is made of a substance which changes the polarization rotation angle of the probe light in accordance with magnetic field intensity B_y1, B_y2 in the first and second positions when the probe light 2 propagates. Along the propagating path of the probe light, a difference in magnetic field intensity between the first and second measuring positions 11, 12 is directly measured as a difference in the polarization rotation angle.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
